Haigh was a figurative painter from Huddersfield. After war service he studied in London at Heatherley's School of Art 1946 and then at the Goldsmiths School of Art 1947-50. His later work changed to geometric abstraction. He exhibited from 1949 at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Society of British Artists, The Leicester Galleries, The Redfern Gallery, Beaux Arts Gallery and Roland Browse & Delbanco. He ran his own frame-making business in Fulham and began to paint again full-time in 1979. In 1988 he had a retrospective show at The Pride Gallery followed by an exhibition at Galeria Ambiente in Valencia in 1991. A major show of his late abstract work was held at the Paisnel Gallery in London in 2009.
