Provenance
Acquired direct from the Artist in the 1920s; by descent. With photo-certificate by Madame Irus Hansma
The present work will be included in the catalogue raisonné of works on paper by Fernand Léger currently being prepared by Irus Hansma
Note: This original mixed media and collage design by Léger depicts Jean Börlin in his ballet Skating-Rink staged by Ballet Suedois in 1922. Léger designed both the costumes and sets for the production.
Although Picasso and Braque experimented extensively with collage, examples by Léger are exceptionally rare. The present design relates to one of the most celebrated cubist cover designs of the 1920s.
