Note: Fry devoted an entire essay to Marchand in his important 1920 book, Vision and Design. In it, Fry praised Marchand for "throwing away of the 'scaffolding of cubism'" and returning to a more naturalistic style while still employing the formal qualities of modern art as demonstrated in this important early still life.
