Note: Roger Fry and the French artist Simon Bussy maintained a close friendship over many years. Bussy married Dorothy Strachey, the sister of Lytton Strachey, a core member of the Bloomsbury Group. This connection brought Bussy into the extended Bloomsbury circle. Both Fry and Bussy were key figures in this intellectual and artistic community.
The present portrait was painted at Gordon Square, London.
