Note: Sydney Lee should be remembered as one of the leaders of the colour woodcut movement in England. Having trained first under Walter Crane in Manchester, Lee then studied at Colarossi in Paris. He learnt the Japanese method of making colour woodcuts and pioneered the method in Britain. His stunning series of St. Ives woodcuts (produced in very small editions) are amongst the finest images ever made of that illustrious town and should feature prominently in any serious collection of St. Ives art.
