Provenance
The present drawing was made on the 24th March 1918.
Private collection, Paris
Recorded in the Matisse Archives (with photo-certificate)
Note: Whilst staying in Nice during 1917-18 Matisse settled down to a daily routine. He rose early, walked to his studio and worked throughout the morning, either painting or drawing in his studio with the light streaming though the window. A short break for a frugal lunch was followed by more work, a session playing his violin in the hotel room, or perhaps a visit to Renoir in Cagnes-sur-Mer with a roll of canvas under his arm. A simple supper and an early bedtime ended his working day.
