Note: Roger Fry had a high opinion of Matthew Smith's work, appreciating his focus on formal qualities like colour and form over narrative content.
Both artists were also prominent members of the London Group during the 1920s and early 30s.

This is one of a series of poster designs that Smith produced for The London Group in 1955. The London Group was formed in 1913 and brought together The Modern Movement in England and was the largest avant-garde exhibition group in Britain during the first hald of the Twentieth Century.
