Maggie King b. 1944

A sculptor, principally in stone and wood, and a painter she has exhibited widely in London and the provinces. Shows have included an invited exhibition with Sandra Blow at New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham. Writing about her work she has stated: 'The ancient quality of stone is a timeless territory, the work of carving is itself a meditative experience and beneath its surface is a discovery of an untouched and silent place.... My sculpture intends to give a visual sense of balance, calm and safety.' Her stone sculptures are distinguished by fine craftsmanship and an intuitative sense of balance and harmony and are informed by a feeling for the historical traditions of stone carving. Examples of her work are in private collections in the UK and Germany, including the important Hiscox Collection. The Bernard Noble Sculpture Foundation in Italy have recently proposed a commission for an outdoor sculpture. Maggie King lives and works in West Somerset.
