Moelwyn Merchant (1913-1997)
was an academic, writer, sculptor, poet and priest, born in
Port Talbot, Glamorgan. His career as a sculptor began in
1964 under the guidance of Barbara Hepworth who had a profound
influence on his work. His sculptures were often erect, there
subjects ranging from the human to natural forms and symbolic
images. He had several solo shows in Exeter, Cardiff, Swansea,
Plymouth and London.
